Current status

The game is, when this website was created, in development. Details of the gameplay and scenery are still being designed. The initial release date of the Open Beta is set to 15 December 2020. Chances are that, due to slow progression, the release date has to be moved to a later date.

Concept Statement

Knights and Kings takes place in a massive 'open world' with a medieval/fantasy theme. Players can go on numerous adventures and quests to earn money and level up to eventually conquer all kingdoms, alongside their clan members and other warriors.

Genre

The game is a mixture of genres. Mainly, it is an Action-Adventure game. Due to the fact that the game has a massive almost open world with 7 kingdoms and around 25 towns to discover, perform quests, and acquire unique items along the way. Players are all in the same world and can cross each other in the game. Also, players can work together or against each other. Thus, classifying the game as an MMO genre as well. The game also has multiple aspects of an RPG as well. It contains skill-trees' in players' personal skills, weapons and bodyguards.

Target Audience

The typical player of Knights and Kings is someone with decent fantasy and a little imagination. Aged 13 years and older the player understands the more complex strategies of the game. The player likes movies like Lord of the Rings and/or Game of Thrones. It likes to build up his account and acquire better items over time. The desired ESRB rating is Teen (13 years and up), although some mild forms of simulated gambling and violence are present in the game.

The Start

A new player starts in a relatively small town. The player has 1000 coins in cash and no house or any property. The player will follow some tutorials in which he gathers armor, a weapon and some food. After that, the player can earn money and experience by selling gathered resources, completing quests, play minigames or explore the world. In addition to these sources of income, the player unlocks professions to perform specific quests and improve a skilltree. These professions are unlocked through completing initial quests. Professions come in quite useful for the 'Late-game'.

Titles

When a player has gathered enough experience, it will be promoted to the next title (level) with a total of 18 titles. Each title grants an increased salary of coins (cash, received every plaid hour). When a player's title and consequently his financial status increases, the player improves his personal skills and can afford more expensive, better items and even a house. A house is mainly used to store items. When a player becomes better it can travel to more distant and dangerous parts of the world, with higher rewards.

Late Game

When a player has eventually reached the highest title, the game-phase of this player turns to 'Late-game'. The player probably has a big house, lots of coins and good items, which makes only playing quests to earn more money increasingly less relevant and boring. That's where the player should shift its focus more to professions, clans and eventually ruling towns.

Clans

Clans can be created and joined by players. A clan can then conquer all clan castles in a town, which, if 100% occupied by the same clan makes the clan capable of ruling over that town. But a clan should fit a major condition: A clan needs to have all professions present among their members, otherwise it cannot fully rule a town. If the clan fits all conditions and is capable of ruling towns, it can proceed to conquering all towns in the world. If a clan manages to conquer all towns in the world, they gain the ultimate victory, rewarding all members a premium price according to a few factors (such as contribution, playtime, time since joining the clan).
